Programs

About

HURENET is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 by Selemiah Mbewa and Alfred Madzungu, orphans themselves, to serve the vulnerable and orphaned youths of their community. The program has since expanded and now serves three districts, Likoni, Mombasa and Mariakani of Costal Kenya.  As orphans themselves, the founders understood the need to come up with a strategy that involved direct participation of the youths and greater community working together to improve the future. HURENET operates as a youth membership organization. The youths pay a small one time membership fee to join and then pay for the training services that they are interested in. The focus areas of the strategy include economic hardship, diseases, lack of education and information, as the main causes of suffering that HURENET aims to eliminate. The overarching theme of HURENET’s approach is empowerment and self sustainability, both financially and managerially.  Read More
